Big Gully Farm Youth Cattle Judging Contest

Hello,
I am planning to host a Youth Cattle Judging Clinic and Contest on Saturday, October 8, 2011 at our farm 12 miles north of Maidstone Saskatchewan beginning at 9:00 am.  This e-mail includes a Word document to provide more information to youth that you believe may be interested in participating.
The morning will include a clinic on anatomy, judging criteria, judging terms, presentation of reasons and selecting a project animal.  The afternoon will include 8 classes of breeding cattle with bulls and heifers of yearling and calf age.  A critique of the classes will follow the conclusion of reasons.  Seniors will give 3 sets of reasons.  There will be NO written reasons.  Juniors will give 1 set of reasons, answer questions on 1 class, and fill out a quiz on anatomy.  Youth ages 9-21 will be split into a junior and senior category based on age the day of contest.  Cash prizes will be awarded through fifth place, based on a percentage of entry fees within that age category..  The entry fee is $40 per participant and includes 2 meals.  Adults and pee-wee age youth would be welcome to participate in placing the classes.  It is my intent to have a combination of Lakeland College Judging Team members and local cattle producers to serve as contest officials and reasons takers.
Interested participants are encouraged to notify me of attendance by October 2, 2011.
If you would, please circulate this to 4-H members or youth that may be interested.  If there are any questions please contact me at 540-382-5342 or biggullyfarm@hotmail.com
Thanks for your time,
Lance Leachman
